Working with partners across all sectors this new Inclusion Champion scheme has been developed to improve the health outcomes for people from all Inclusion Health Groups.

Inclusion Champion

About the Role

The Champion role is designed for staff and volunteers from all sectors, who are passionate about being a part of this change. You do not have to be an expert in Inclusion Health, but you do need to be passionate! Lived experience of inclusion health is welcomed and will be supported.

The scheme's been designed in a way that limits the capacity impact for individuals and teams with champions expecting to attend just three network meetings a year.

Other aspects which are key to the role should not require additional time or capacity as they form part of day-to-day interactions with colleagues and service users/patients.

What will champions do?

  • Provide information, signposting and sharing knowledge about inclusion health
  • Sharing good practice and learning with their team or other teams
  • Be visible and approachable to colleagues
  • Encourage and role model positive ways of working
  • Participate as part of a network who have power drive meaningful change
  • Advocate for people from inclusion health groups by positively challenging stigmatising language and practice where appropriate
  • Build opportunities to connect with people with lived experience

What support will be available

  • An initial induction and orientation session to include the All Our Health / East Riding Inclusion Health training package.
  • Ongoing access to a range of training, resources, and events about inclusion health to be accessed at the Champions own pace.
  • Forums to allow networking and sharing good practice / learning with other Champions
  • Teams channel (or similar platform) for networking/information sharing

What will be the benefits of the scheme to our organisation and staff?

This is a fantastic opportunity for staff to develop their skills and knowledge about inclusion health best practice, and to act as part of a network of people who will foster change. Having a champion in your team or service will be a great asset, not only within your organisation, but also in your role as a system-change agent! Improving outcomes for inclusion health groups is a huge undertaking, but by coming together as a collective we will be more likely to achieve our aspirations.

Expected benefits of the scheme

For those signing up to the scheme:

  1. Personal development – access to training, education and resources
  2. Develop facilitation skills
  3. Opportunity to get involved in projects
  4. Be part of a network who have power drive meaningful change

For the East Riding Workforce

  1.  Increased knowledge and awareness.
  2.  Confidence in supporting people from Inclusion Health Groups.

Those from Inclusion Health Groups

  1.  Feel seen and heard by the system.
  2.  Have increased confidence that services will meet their needs, recognise their strengths and treat them with respect and dignity.

How can community groups support this?

Have discussions with colleagues and consider how you might be able to accommodate a staff member or one of your volunteers signing up to the scheme. If this isn't possible, you can help by simply sharing information and promoting  the scheme with your local community contacts and networks.

When is the scheme launching?

The scheme launches in January 2025, with recruitment beginning shortly after that.
