Residents, visitors and community groups across the East Riding can once again enjoy affordable and sustainable travel to some of the region's most beautiful destinations as the popular Wolds Explorer and Spurn Explorer bus services return for the 2026 spring and summer season.

Funded by East Riding of Yorkshire Council through Government Bus Service Improvement funding and operated by East Yorkshire Buses, the services are now running on weekends and Bank Holidays, providing easy access to rural communities, walking routes, nature reserves and visitor attractions for just £3 per single journey.

Discover the Yorkshire Wolds

The Wolds Explorer (Service 200) offers a convenient way to experience the stunning Yorkshire Wolds countryside. The route connects Pocklington with Thixendale, serving villages including Millington, Huggate and Fridaythorpe along the way. It provides an excellent opportunity for walkers, cyclists, residents and visitors to access the Wolds Way National Trail, local pubs, cafés and rural attractions.

The service runs until 26 September 2026 and connects with the X45 and X46 services from Hull and York, making it accessible from across the region. Passengers travelling on the X45 or X46 can continue their journey on the Wolds Explorer free of charge by showing their ticket.

Explore Spurn Point and the Holderness Coast

The Spurn Explorer (Services 71 and 72) provides direct access to the internationally important Spurn National Nature Reserve and Discovery Centre at Kilnsea. Operated in partnership with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, the service allows passengers to enjoy coastal walks, wildlife spotting, birdwatching and visits to the iconic Spurn Lighthouse.

Saturday services operate between Hull, Patrington and Kilnsea, while Sunday services run from Withernsea to the Spurn Discovery Centre. The service will continue until 1 November 2026.

Supporting Accessible and Sustainable Travel

For many people, particularly those without access to a car, these seasonal services provide an important opportunity to enjoy East Riding's countryside, coastline and visitor attractions independently. They also support greener travel choices, helping to reduce congestion and environmental impact while encouraging more people to connect with nature and local communities.

These routes may be particularly useful for community groups, carers, older residents, walking groups, families and voluntary organisations looking to organise low-cost days out during the summer months.
