Celebrate International Day of Older Persons in Hornsea
On Thursday 1 October, people across the world will mark International Day of Older Persons, a chance to celebrate the contribution, experience and importance of older people in our communities.
To mark the day, we are planning a relaxed community celebration in Hornsea, bringing together local people, community organisations and partners.

- Date: Thursday 1st October
- Location: St Nicholas Parish Hall - 1 Newbegin, Hornsea, HU18 1AB
- Time: 10am–2pm.

- 10.00am – Doors open
- 10.00am–10.30am – Arrive, grab yourself a slice of cake and a cuppa, and have a look around.
- 10.30am–11.00am – A short welcome and introduction from the host.
Throughout the rest of the day, visitors will be free to come and go, explore, take part or simply enjoy a chat. You will be able to:
- Add thoughts, memories and ideas to the Living Story Map — highlighting places you love, feel safe, find difficult, remember fondly or would like to improve.
- Spend time in quieter “Take a Seat” conversation spaces, sharing what has changed, what keeps you connected and what would make life easier as you grow older.
- Explore displays sharing the stories, photographs and themes already gathered through the project.
- Meet local organisations and find out more about activities, advice and support available locally, including stalls from Early Help, Growing Green and Blue, and other voluntary and community organisations.
Find out how the conversations gathered through the project will help inform what happens next. Community insight should not stop at a celebration event — it should help influence local conversations, planning and change.
There will be no need to arrive at a particular time or stay all day.
Pop in, say hello and stay for as long as you like.

The day is part of the Age Friendly Communities project, we have been working on.
This project has been gathering the views and experiences of older residents across East Riding.
We want to hear what people value about where they live, what makes daily life easier or harder, what is available on their doorstep — and what they feel is missing.
Age Friendly Communities is about all of us: the older generation we will become. Whether you are an older resident, a carer, volunteer, family member, local organisation or simply interested in your community, you are very welcome to come along.
