East Riding Getting Along Cafés: Support for Couples and Care Partners Living with Dementia
Dementia can place real pressure on relationships, but those changes are nobody’s fault. For many couples, families and care partners, the day-to-day challenges of dementia can feel draining, confusing and emotionally difficult.
The new East Riding Getting Along Cafés offer a welcoming space for people with dementia and their care partners to talk through some of these difficulties together. The cafés are designed to help both people explore what may have changed in their relationship, share experiences in a relaxed setting, and come up with new ideas for understanding and supporting one another.
The cafés will take place across four weekly sessions at Crown Buildings, Quay Road, Bridlington, YO16 4LY. Sessions will be facilitated by Innovations in Dementia and the East Riding Carers’ Support Service, with open and non-judgemental conversations based around four key themes
The sessions are:
- Tuesday 2 June, 11am to 1pm:
Getting along — looking at how you have always got along and what may have changed.
- Tuesday 9 June, 11am to 12.30pm :
Past, present and future — exploring your shared story, your current situation and the future.
- Tuesday 16 June, 11am to 12.30pm:
Who am I? — looking at how you see yourself and what makes you matter.
- Tuesday 23 June, 11am to 12.30pm:
Understanding each other’s perspective — exploring how you perceive each other and interpret one another’s actions.
These sessions are aimed at people with dementia and their care partners who feel they could benefit from coming together to talk, listen and reflect in a supportive environment.
