Funding Opportunity: £170 Million for Depot EV Charging Infrastructure
A major new funding programme has been announced to support organisations in transitioning to greener transport, with investment aimed at reducing carbon emissions and supporting the move to electric vehicles.
What’s Available
The Depot Charging Scheme will provide up to £170 million in government funding between 2026 and 2030 to support the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure at fleet depots.
In the first phase:
£66 million will be available across two application windows
- £28 million allocated for 2026/27
- £38 million allocated for 2027/28
Organisations can apply for:
- Up to £1 million per organisation
- Up to 70% of eligible costs covered, including chargepoints and associated infrastructure
- What the Funding Supports
The scheme will support:
- Installation of EV chargepoints at depot sites
- Infrastructure and civil engineering works required
- Transition to zero-emission fleets, including vans, HGVs and coaches
This is particularly aimed at organisations where the cost of installing charging infrastructure may otherwise be a barrier.
Who Can Apply
The funding is open to:
- Public sector organisations and local authorities
- Private sector fleet operators
- VCSE and non-profit organisations operating fleet vehicles
To be eligible, organisations must:
- Be UK registered and operating for at least one year
- Own or lease at least one battery-electric vehicle
- Own the depot site(s) included in the application
Each organisation can submit one application, which can cover multiple sites.
Deadline
Applications close: 30 June 2026 (12:00 midday)
Funding may close early if oversubscribed, so early applications are strongly encouraged.
There will be second application window this year opening on 28 October 2026 and closing on 29 January 2027, for projects starting after April 2027)
