Downright Special is looking for an experienced, compassionate and committed volunteer to become its next Chair of Trustees.

Based in Hull and East Yorkshire, Downright Special supports children and young people with Down syndrome to reach their full potential. The charity is now seeking someone who can help lead its dedicated Board of Trustees into the next chapter.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to a well-loved local charity. Working closely with the Charity Manager and fellow trustees, the Chair will provide leadership, support strong governance and help shape the organisation’s strategic direction.

The role includes:

  • Leading the Board and supporting effective governance
  • Chairing inclusive, well-structured trustee meetings
  • Monitoring progress and helping to shape future plans
  • Acting as an ambassador for Downright Special
  • Supporting trustee recruitment, induction and development

The commitment is around 2–3 hours per week, with meetings held online and occasionally in person.

Downright Special would particularly welcome someone with experience in governance, leadership or strategic oversight, who is an effective communicator, a good listener and able to bring people together around a shared purpose.

If you are motivated by community, positive change and helping children and young people thrive, this could be a rewarding opportunity to use your skills.
