New Grants to Reduce Loneliness for Older People in Deprived Communities
Opening Date: 1 August 2025
The McCarthy Stone Foundation has announced a new funding programme designed to reduce loneliness and social isolation for people aged 65 and over in some of the UK’s most deprived areas.
Grants of up to £7,500 will be available to support community-based projects in England, Scotland, and Wales. Around 20 grants are expected to be awarded during this round.
Who can apply?
- Registered charities
- Constituted community groups
- Community Interest Companies (CICs) limited by guarantee
Eligibility note: Applicants must have an annual income under £250,000. Dementia-specific charities are not eligible in this round, though charities working with a broader older population that may include people with dementia can apply.
What types of projects are eligible?
Funding will support initiatives that create meaningful social connections, including:
- Befriending services and meal deliveries for older people living independently
- Social activities such as art or dance classes, lunch clubs, and coffee mornings
- Community transport that connects older people to local services and events
Place-Based Funding Approach
This year, the Foundation is taking a place-based approach to ensure equitable distribution of funds. Priority will be given to organisations operating in specific locations within the Foundation’s six grant-award regions. Full details are available in the guidance notes on the Foundation’s website.
Applications open on 1 August and close on 29 August 2025 at 5:00 PM.
