Free Domestic Abuse Training for East Riding VCFSE Staff and Volunteers

Community VISION is offering two free, CPD-accredited Domestic Abuse Practitioner Standards (DAPS) training sessions for staff and volunteers working in the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) sector who support East Riding residents.

Developed by the Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner in partnership with Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG), the training is designed to build confidence in recognising domestic abuse, responding appropriately and understanding the support available.

Level 1: Understanding Domestic Abuse

Tuesday 3 November 2026, 10am–1pm

This introductory three-hour session is suitable for anyone who may come into contact with children, adults or families affected by domestic abuse through their work or volunteering.

The session will explore:

• Recognising signs and indicators of domestic abuse
• The prevalence and impact of domestic abuse
• Barriers people may face when seeking support
• Perpetrator choices and behaviours
• Local and national sources of support

Level 2: Responding to Domestic Abuse

Tuesday 1 December 2026, 10am–3pm

Level 2 builds on the foundations of Level 1 and is particularly relevant for people working more closely with children, adults and families.

It will focus on what to do when you are concerned that someone may be experiencing, or perpetrating, domestic abuse — including responding to disclosures, understanding risk, gathering appropriate information and taking action to safeguard potential victims, families and staff.

Participants are encouraged to complete Level 1 before attending Level 2. If the November session is not suitable, please contact Gemma Jennison to discuss completing Level 1 online.

Why take part?

Domestic abuse affects people across every community. Around one in four women and one in five men will experience domestic abuse, meaning those working directly with the public are likely to encounter people affected by it.

These sessions offer a practical opportunity to strengthen knowledge, build confidence and learn alongside colleagues from across the East Riding VCFSE sector.

Both sessions will take place at HEY Mind, Beverley Road, Hull and are free for paid staff and volunteers from VCFSE organisations supporting East Riding residents.
