Free Online Resources to Help Parents and Carers Support Young People

Parents and carers play one of the most important roles in helping children and young people stay safe. However, with growing concerns around online harm, violence, exploitation, anti-social behaviour and unhealthy relationships, it can sometimes be difficult to know where to start or how to have these important conversations.

The Humber Violence Prevention Partnership (Humber VPP) has launched a new 'Not In Our Community' Parent and Carer Resource Hub, providing free, easy-to-access information designed to help families support young people to make safe and positive choices. The resource hub has been developed in partnership with eski and is funded by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) for Humberside

A Practical Resource for Families

The online hub brings together a wide range of trusted resources to help parents, carers and families better understand the challenges young people may face.

Resources include:

• Videos and short learning materials
• Downloadable digital booklets
• Activity directories for young people
• Advice on recognising early warning signs
• Guidance on starting conversations about difficult topics
• Information suitable for a wide range of ages

The aim is to give parents and carers the confidence to discuss challenging subjects before problems escalate, helping to prevent harm through early awareness and open communication

Topics Covered

The resource hub includes information on many of the issues affecting young people today, including:

• Violence and weapons
• Healthy and unhealthy relationships
• Anti-social behaviour
• Online safety
• Child exploitation
• Substance use
• Hate crime
• Radicalisation

These topics have been developed as part of the wider Not In Our Community campaign, which works across the Humber region to educate and empower young people to make positive choices and stay safe. The resources have been co-produced with schools, youth organisations and young people to ensure they are relevant, engaging and practical.
