ArtRoots – Funding for Creative Projects Along the National Cycle Network

Community organisations, artists and local partners are invited to apply for ArtRoots, a new funding programme supporting creative projects that celebrate and enhance the National Cycle Network in England.

Delivered by the Walk, Wheel & Cycle Trust, ArtRoots aims to bring communities together through arts and culture, creating welcoming, inspiring and inclusive spaces along walking, wheeling and cycling routes. The programme encourages creative projects that connect people with their local environment while promoting active travel and community pride. (Walk, Wheel & Cycle Trust)

Funding Available

Grants of between £5,000 and £15,000 are available for community-led creative projects located along, or closely connected to, the National Cycle Network in England.

What Can Be Funded?

The programme is looking for imaginative projects that make the National Cycle Network more engaging and accessible through creativity. Examples could include:

• Community murals and public art
• Sculptures and installations
• Creative interpretation of local heritage
• Performance and storytelling
• Community arts workshops
• Interactive or participatory projects
• Nature-inspired artwork
• Projects celebrating local identity and culture

The focus is on projects that encourage people to explore, enjoy and feel connected to their local walking, wheeling and cycling routes

Who Can Apply?

Applications are welcomed from organisations including:

• Registered charities
• Community groups
• Community Interest Companies (CICs)
• Local authorities
• Parish and town councils
• Arts organisations
• Other not-for-profit organisations

Partnership applications are encouraged, particularly where they bring together community organisations, artists and local stakeholders.

Successful projects should demonstrate how they will:

• Involve local communities in the creative process.
• Improve people's experience of the National Cycle Network.
• Celebrate local culture, history or the natural environment.
• Encourage more people to walk, wheel or cycle.
