Help Shape the Future of Diet and Mental Wellbeing Support
Could the food we eat play a bigger role in supporting our mental wellbeing?
Researchers are exploring exactly that through the BRAIN and BehavIour dieT support survEy (Brain BITE), and they are looking for people across our communities to share their views.
Whether you have personally experienced stress, anxiety, low mood, sleeplessness, or another mental health, neurodevelopmental or behavioural condition, or you support someone who has, your experiences could help shape future NHS services.
What is Brain BITE?
The BRAIN and BehavIour dieT support survEy (Brain BITE) is a new research study exploring how diet can support brain health and mental wellbeing.
There is growing evidence that the foods we eat can influence how we feel, think and function. Researchers want to understand what types of support people would actually find helpful when making dietary changes, ensuring future NHS services are designed around the needs and preferences of the people who will use them.
Rather than testing a specific diet, this study is asking people what support they would value to help improve their diet and, potentially, their mental wellbeing.
Who can take part?
The survey is open to anyone who:
- Is aged 14 years or over
- Has lived experience of stress, anxiety, low mood, sleeplessness, or another mental health, neurodevelopmental or behavioural condition
- Is a family member, friend or carer supporting someone with these experiences
- Wants to help improve future NHS care and support
What's involved?
- Taking part is simple and should take around 15 minutes.
- Everyone who completes the survey will have the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win a £50 voucher.
- When asked where you heard about the study, please select Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust.

Why take part?
By taking part, you'll be helping researchers design effective, diet-focused support that could benefit future NHS services.
Your views will help shape how support is developed so that it is practical, accessible and centred around what matters most to people.
Why this matters
At HEY Smile Foundation, we know that improving health and wellbeing starts with listening to the people who use services. Research like Brain BITE gives local people the opportunity to influence how future support is designed and delivered.
If dietary support can become another tool to help people improve their mental wellbeing, studies like this will help ensure those services are evidence-based, practical and shaped by real-life experiences.
If you, or someone you know, could take part, we'd encourage you to spend just 15 minutes completing the survey and helping shape the future of diet and mental wellbeing support.
