On Thursday 14 May 2026, people across the UK will be wearing green to mark Wear it Green Day, part of Mental Health Awareness Week.

Led by the Mental Health Foundation,Wear it Green Day is a simple but powerful way to raise awareness, start conversations and show that mental health matters. Green is the colour of mental health awareness, and wearing it is a visible sign of support for anyone who may be struggling. The Mental Health Foundation describes it as a fun way for schools, workplaces and communities to raise awareness and funds for mental health.

Mental health affects us all. Some people may be living with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, stress, loneliness or suicidal thoughts. Others may be caring for someone, waiting for support, or quietly trying to get through each day. By taking part in Wear it Green Day, we can help challenge stigma and remind people that they are not alone.

This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week theme is Action, encouraging us to move beyond awareness and take practical steps to support good mental health. That action can be as simple as checking in on someone, sharing trusted support services, fundraising for mental health charities, or creating a workplace or community space where people feel safe to talk.

Across Hull and East Riding, many brilliant organisations are working every day to support people’s mental health and wellbeing. Wear it Green Day is a chance to celebrate that work, raise awareness of local support, and encourage more people to reach out when they need help.

So on Thursday 14 May, wear something green, share a message of support, start a conversation, and help turn our communities green for good mental health.
