Wraparound Care: The Missing Piece in SEND Reform?
A timely and important conversation is taking place this April, focusing on a critical gap in the proposed reforms to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision.
Families First are hosting a free online session exploring the role of wraparound care and why it must be recognised as part of a truly inclusive system for children and families.
Why This Matters
Current government proposals for SEND reform make no direct reference to the wraparound sector. This omission has raised concerns that existing gaps in access to support could widen further—particularly for children with SEND and their families.
While increased focus on early years and school-based inclusion is welcome, support outside of school hours plays a vital role. Wraparound provision, community services, and family-based support help children thrive beyond the classroom and enable families to maintain stability, employment, and wellbeing.
As highlighted in the event overview, providers working beyond the school setting are essential in supporting school-age children and their families, yet risk being overlooked in policy development
