Ramadan: Reflection, Community and Support Across East Riding & Hull
Ramadan Mubarak to everyone observing this holy month.
As Ramadan begins, we send our warmest wishes to Muslims across Hull & East Riding.Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a time of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. It is also the month in which the Qur’an is believed to have been revealed to the Islamic Prophet Muhammad. Beyond fasting, Ramadan centres on generosity, compassion, and strengthening connections with others — values that closely reflect the work and ethos of our VCSE sector.
Supporting communities throughout Ramadan
Across East Riding and Hull, VCSE organisations, faith groups, and volunteers are working together to support individuals and families throughout the month. This includes food provision, social connection, wellbeing activities, and creating spaces for cultural understanding and belonging.
We recognise and thank local partners for their vital contribution, including:
- Hull Mosque & Islamic Centre
- Hull Council of Mosques
- Welcome House - offering practical support, community events, cultural inclusion, and guidance for refugees and asylum seekers observing Ramadan
- Hull Jame Masjid - a dedicated community hub offering a diverse range of services designed to support and uplift our neighbours
- Local food banks, community kitchens, and mutual-aid groups across East Riding supporting families with halal food options
- VCSE organisations delivering wellbeing sessions, women’s groups, and community iftars
- Muslim Women's Network UK
These collective efforts help ensure that people feel supported, especially those who may be experiencing Ramadan away from family, are new to the area, or are rebuilding their lives.
A welcoming and inclusive East Riding
East Riding continues to grow as a welcoming, diverse, and compassionate place. This is thanks to strong collaboration between charities, volunteers, community leaders, and faith organisations who work tirelessly to ensure everyone feels included — particularly during important cultural and religious moments such as Ramadan.
How VCSE organisations can show support
During Ramadan, we encourage VCSE organisations to:
- Consider the needs of those who are fasting when planning activities and meetings
- Support or attend local community iftars and intercultural events
- Strengthen partnerships with faith and cultural groups
- Promote inclusion, understanding, and kindness throughout the month
By recognising and respecting Ramadan, we continue to build trust, understanding, and stronger communities for everyone.
We wish all those observing a peaceful, reflective, and blessed Ramadan.
