Organisations working to protect and improve the UK’s marine and coastal environment can now apply for funding through the Sea-Changers Innovation Fund.

This fund is aimed at supporting new, creative and experimental approaches to tackling marine conservation challenges in the UK. Grants of up to £10,000 are available to help test ideas, pilot projects, or trial solutions that could make a real difference to our seas and coastal communities.

Who can apply? The fund is open to a wide range of organisations, including:

  • Charities and community groups
  • Companies and Community Interest Companies (CICs)
  • Universities and schools

What kind of projects can be funded? Sea-Changers is particularly interested in projects that:

  • Address the root causes of marine conservation threats
  • Prevent or reduce harm to UK coastal and marine environments or species
  • Build knowledge about marine conservation challenges and how to overcome them

Funded projects may include:

  • Research
  • Innovative citizen science projects
  • New ways of measuring or monitoring marine environmental issues
  •  Direct action
  • Creative approaches to coastal clean-ups
  • New solutions to reduce marine pollution
  • Species protection
  • Innovative projects that protect, replenish or support threatened marine species
  • Education and community engagement
  • New ways of involving people, businesses or communities in marine conservation
  • Approaches that have not previously been tested in the UK

Projects can be at a very early stage, at pilot stage, or be ideas that have worked elsewhere but are new to the UK marine environment.

Deadline 30 April 2026

This could be a good opportunity for smaller VCSE organisations, community groups, or partnerships looking to trial innovative marine or coastal projects.
