Funding Alert: Applications Opening in January to Support ACE Mental Health Projects (UK)
UK charities working to improve mental health outcomes for children, young people and families affected by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) will soon be able to apply for new grant funding of up to £25,000, opening 5 January 2026.
This opportunity is aimed at strengthening the vital work of specialist charities across the VCSE sector that help children and young people recover from trauma and support parents affected by ACEs, mental illness or addiction.
Who Can Apply?
Applications are welcomed from UK-registered healthcare charities that meet the following criteria:
- Annual income below £20 million
- At least five years of audited or independently examined accounts
- Regional or national charities are eligible
The funding is flexible and can contribute to general service delivery or be directed towards a specific project.
What Types of Projects Will Be Supported?
Projects must be evidence-based and trauma-informed, with a clear aim to overcome and prevent ACEs.
1. Support for Children and Young People
Only charities that specialise solely in one or more of the following areas are eligible:
- Childhood sexual abuse
- Living in a household with domestic violence, emotional neglect, or physical neglect
- Living with a parent experiencing mental illness and/or substance abuse
Projects should focus on helping children and young people recover, cope and build resilience.
2. Support for Parents and Families
Funding is also available for specialist charities focused exclusively on supporting parents facing complex challenges, including:
- Helping parents address their own ACEs to break the intergenerational cycle of trauma and abuse
- Supporting families where a parent or caregiver has a mental illness or substance addiction, particularly when there is a risk of harm to children
Key Dates
- Applications open: 5 January 2026
- Deadline: 6 February 2026 at 17:00
VCSE organisations are encouraged to prepare early to ensure all eligibility criteria, evidence and supporting information are ready ahead of submission. More information will be given when the funding applications open.
Why This Matters for the VCSE Community
This funding represents a valuable opportunity for specialist charities working at the heart of trauma recovery, safeguarding and family support. With ACE-related mental health issues continuing to affect countless children and families, this programme aims to strengthen early intervention and long-term recovery through trusted community-based services.
If your organisation supports children, young people or parents affected by ACEs—and you meet the eligibility criteria—this may be a significant opportunity to expand your impact in 2026.
