Call for Placements: Help Foundation Dentists Support Inclusion Health Groups

The Dental Public Health Team and the Special Care Dentistry Managed Clinical Network are developing a new module for Foundation Dentists (FDs) to better understand and support patients with complex medical and social needs.

They are seeking VCSE organisations and community partners to host placement days between January and June 2026. These placements aim to increase awareness among newly qualified dentists of the challenges faced by inclusion health groups.

Who Can Host?

  • SEND Hubs
  • Inclusion Health Hubs (e.g. homelessness drop-ins, refugee health days)
  • Social care settings (excluding care homes)
  • Family Hubs
  • Services for children looked after
  • Local VCSE organisations

What’s Involved?

  • Provide a named contact to supervise the FD
  • Support the FD in delivering oral health advice (no clinical work)
  • Facilitate learning and engagement with your service users
  • Coordinate with the NHS Lead Employer Trust for governance

This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the future of inclusive dental care and raise awareness of the vital work your organisation does.
