Loneliness and social isolation affect people across all ages and backgrounds. It’s a growing issue in many of our communities, and now, there’s an exciting opportunity to take part in ground breaking research that could help change lives.

The INTERACT Study is the largest global study focused on loneliness and aims to create a visual ‘heat map’ to show the scale of loneliness both nationally and regionally. This map will highlight areas where people are most affected and could drive positive action, leading to better support for those who are isolated.

Why is this important for us?

The research could lead to new ways of tackling loneliness, through innovative services and interventions, and further funding opportunities to create meaningful change.

The Research Team at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, in partnership with Hull City Council and Imperial College London, are surveying individuals aged 16+ living in HU postcodes. To ensure the study truly represents our community, we need to involve at least 10% of Hull’s population—which is a big ask but also a fantastic opportunity to make a difference locally.

How can you get involved?

We’re asking for your support to help us reach as many people as possible. Here’s how you can help:

  1. Promote the study on your website, in your e-newsletters, or via mass email or text. Share the project details and include a link or QR code to make it easy for people to take part.
  2. Encourage local community groups and organisations in your networks to participate.
  3. Show your support publicly through social media, local media, or by attending an event related to the project.

We’ve created a recruitment pack to make it easier for you to help spread the word. It includes:

  • An overview of the project
  • A recruitment poster (email us if you'd like printed copies)
  • Suggested wording for social media and other communications
  • A link and QR code to the survey

Together, we can help create a resource that benefits our entire community. Let’s work together to make sure no one is left behind. For more information and to access the resources, please see the attached recruitment pack.
