High blood pressure costs the NHS £2.1 billion every year!  Six million people in the UK alone have high blood pressure and are unaware of it because high blood pressure usually has no symptoms...

  • 1 in 2 strokes and heart attacks are the result of high blood pressure
  • 1 in 3 adults in the UK have high blood pressure
  • 1 in 2 adults with high blood pressure don’t know they have it or aren’t receiving treatment

The first sign is often a heart attack or stroke.  High blood pressure can also cause other illnesses too such as kidney disease and dementia. These tragedies can be prevented with medication and lifestyle changes.

BP Check Train the Trainer project

The BP Check Train the Trainer project aims to raise awareness and reach those who are unaware they have high blood pressure.  The NHS are keen to work with partners working in known areas with populations where there is a high  prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) - often within our most deprived neighbourhoods and population groups 40-75 years of age.

This project is lead by the Health Innovation Network, free training is available for frontline workers from across the system ,including the VCSE sector as part of Making Every Contact Count. Enable community based groups and organisation to support people to take their blood pressure reading and understand their numbers and any next steps. they need to take.
