Charities, housing providers and local authorities working to support armed forces veterans now have the opportunity to apply for significant funding through the Reducing Veteran Homelessness Programme 2026.

Delivered by the Office for Veterans' Affairs (OVA) and administered by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, the programme aims to strengthen supported housing services for veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, particularly those with complex needs who require specialist support

Supporting Veterans to Rebuild Their Lives

Leaving the armed forces can be a challenging transition for some veterans. Issues such as poor mental health, physical injury, relationship breakdown, financial hardship or substance misuse can all contribute to housing instability.

This funding programme recognises that stable accommodation alone is not enough. Successful projects will provide both high-quality supported housing and the wraparound services needed to help veterans rebuild their lives and move towards independent living.

Funding Available

Two levels of grant funding are available depending on the needs of the veterans being supported:

  • Up to £1.25 million for projects supporting veterans with high levels of complex and multiple needs.
  • Up to £750,000 for projects supporting veterans with low to medium levels of need, or a combination of needs.

Projects can run for up to two years and three months.

Who Can Apply?

Applications are welcomed from organisations with substantial experience delivering veteran housing support, including:

  • Registered charities
  • Community Interest Companies (CICs)
  • Registered social housing providers
  • Registered social landlords
  • Registered housing associations
  • Local authorities

Eligible organisations should be able to demonstrate at least five years' experience in providing supported housing or relevant services for veterans.

What Can the Funding Be Used For?

The programme is designed to be flexible and can fund a wide range of project costs, including:

  • Staffing and project delivery
  • Volunteer expenses
  • Accessibility support
  • Therapeutic or wellbeing activities
  • Equipment and IT
  • Materials and resources
  • Practical support that helps veterans access and sustain accommodation

Projects should demonstrate how they will:

  • Improve long-term housing stability for veterans.
  • Reduce repeat homelessness.
  • Increase access to appropriate supported housing.
  • Improve the effectiveness and capacity of veteran housing pathways.
  • Support veterans to progress towards independent living.

Key Dates

Application deadline: 5 August 2026 (12 noon).

Organisations considering applying are encouraged to begin planning early, as applications will need to clearly demonstrate both need and long-term impact.
