Supporting Children Beyond Cancer Treatment – Your Voice Matters
Have you supported a child or young person after they have finished cancer treatment? If so, there is an important opportunity to share your experience and help shape future support.
Sheffield Hallam University is working in partnership with Yorkshire Cancer Research to develop a new health behaviour intervention for children and young people aged 0–19 who have completed cancer treatment. This work is focused on improving long-term wellbeing and ensuring that support does not stop when treatment ends.
Why this matters
Finishing cancer treatment is a huge milestone, but for many children and young people, it is not the end of their journey. Adjusting back into everyday life can bring physical, emotional and social challenges. Those supporting them, whether in a professional or voluntary role, have valuable insight into what works, what is missing and what could be improved.
Who they want to hear from
The project team is keen to speak to anyone who has supported a child or young person after cancer treatment. This includes:
- Sports coaches
- Volunteers within children’s organisations
- Girlguiding or Scouts leaders
- Community group workers
- Anyone with relevant lived or support experience
Even if you have only supported one young person, your experience is important and welcomed.
What’s involved
Participants are invited to take part in a one-hour interview. The conversation will focus on:
- Your experiences of supporting children and young people post-treatment
- What support currently exists and what gaps remain
- What could be improved in the future
As a thank you, participants will receive a £20 Amazon voucher.
Why the VCSE sector is key
Across the VCSE sector, we know that support often happens in community spaces, youth groups, clubs and informal settings. You are often the trusted people young people turn to as they rebuild confidence, reconnect socially and return to everyday life.
This is a chance to ensure those voices and experiences are reflected in future services and support.
Get involved
If this sounds like you, or someone within your organisation, you are encouraged to take part or share this opportunity across your networks.
