VCSE

A new volunteering opportunity has been announced by East Riding Council, inviting people across our communities to step forward as Independent Volunteers (IVs) and make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people in care.

Sometimes, a small commitment can have a life-changing impact. Independent Volunteers provide consistent, trusted 1:1 support to a young person, offering them time, attention, and a positive adult role model outside of their care setting.

  • As an IV, you will:
  • Spend regular one-to-one time with a young person
  • Offer a safe space to talk, be listened to, and feel valued
  • Support young people to build confidence and enjoy activities they choose
  • Make a real difference through simple, meaningful connection
  • You don’t need specialist qualifications — just empathy, reliability, and a genuine interest in supporting young people.
  • Full Training and Ongoing Support

All volunteers will receive full training to prepare them for the role, alongside ongoing support from the Independent Volunteering team. You won’t be doing this alone — you’ll be part of a wider network committed to improving outcomes for children and young people in care.

How to Get Involved

If you feel you could contribute to the Independent Volunteer scheme, or would like to find out more, please get in touch with:

Interviews for prospective volunteers will take place mid-February, so now is a great time to express your interest.

Please Share Widely
We encourage VCSE organisations, community groups, and partners to share this opportunity across your teams and networks. The more people who hear about the role, the greater the chance of matching young people with the supportive adults they deserve.

Together, we can help ensure every young person feels heard, supported, and valued ?
