Modern Slavery image of person with hands bound

Over the past two decades, Modern Slavery in the UK has risen exponentially, from a few thousand victims at the turn of the Millennium, to an estimated 122,000 today (Global Slavery Index, 2023).

This interactive workshop session will consider scale and form of modern slavery, and importantly, its causes, globally and nationally. It will critically evaluate current UK government approaches to Modern Slavery and the effects of these on some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. In this session we will work together to discuss our current approach and understanding of modern slavery in our region and how we might work together to tackle this issue.
