In support of our East Riding Place based system working, East Riding of Yorkshire Council has announced a series of five free webinars available to view live and on demand surrounding new approaches to leadership in challenging times. The weekly, hourly sessions will be hosted by Esther Hall (CPsychol) Public Health Specialist and John Skidmore Director of Adults, Health and Customer Services at the council.

In support of our East Riding Place based system working, East Riding of Yorkshire Council has announced a series of five free webinars available to view live and on demand surrounding new approaches to leadership in challenging times. The weekly, hourly sessions will be hosted by Esther Hall (CPsychol) Public Health Specialist and John Skidmore Director of Adults, Health and Customer Services at the council.

The sessions are open to leaders and potential leaders at all levels across the system: health, fire, police, council, voluntary sector, etc. The sessions have been designed to support those facing Leadership challenges brought to the surface by the unprecedented demands and contexts of our current pandemic.

The hour-long webinars will cover important approaches, practices, and practical considerations for understanding, using, reflecting, and learning new ways to lead in complex, ambiguous and unpredictable situations.

The first webinar will tackle ‘Complexity’ and take place on Wednesday 24th February at 4.30pm via Microsoft Teams/Zoom. The session will be recorded and uploaded to YouTube and available to watch on demand.

The series will cover the following topics

  • Complexity – what is it, how do we know, and what can we do?
  • Unconscious Bias – building awareness of how emotions, previous experiences and culture affect how we see and relate to others, how well we listen and how we make decisions
  • Systems – How systems are perceived differently, how groups get marginalised, using values to build between system parts and the importance of looking beneath the surface  
  • Adult Development – A Framework to understand how to build our capacities to handle complexity and what conditions are needed  
  • Leading from the Heart – Finding our deep purpose, linking heart and mind, practices to make it real, bringing it all together
