Carer Champion Training

The carers support service, along with East Riding of Yorkshire Council have created this training to enable carers to raise awareness of the services and support available to them and to become a Carer Champion.

What is a Carer Champion?

A carer champion is someone who has knowledge of the services and support available for all carers in the area. The aim is to improve the quality of life for all carers in the East Riding. 

This training will show you:

  • How to identify an unpaid carer
  • How to refer unpaid carers for a Carers’ Assessment
  • The Carer Assessment process
  • Support available to unpaid carers
  • Pass on information and raise awareness in your teams, your families, and out in your local communities regarding unpaid carers.

The training will equip you with the skills to become a Carers Champion.

  • Carers
  • People who think they might be carers
  • Family and friends of carers
  • Professionals

  • Carer's 'My Conversation'/Assessment, Support Plan & Review
  • Personal Budget
  • Carer Relief Sitting Service
  • Emergency Cover Service
  • Access to Short Breaks – Cottage & Caravans
  • Passport to leisure
  • Health Trainer referral
  • Legal clinics
  • Money and benefit clinics
  • Carer Support Groups
  • DWP advice and direct referrals
  • Access to courses
  • Signposting and referrals to other services
  • Specialist Carers mental health support officer, to support people caring for someone suffering with poor mental health
